It's not another blunt instrument!

ToneHalo is now officially live.
The idea began as a small thought bubble during a conversation at my niece’s birthday. My niece is no longer in the age group affected by the new under-16 social media restrictions that came into force last week, but the discussion landed heavily nonetheless. Those measures feel blunt, archaic - a familiar reach for control in a world that has already moved on.
That moment stuck with me. Not because of policy, but because of proximity. My own son will step into his teenage years next year. The world he’s entering bears little resemblance to the one I grew up in during the 70s and 80s. The landscape has shifted. When that happens, the tools we give people - especially young people - have to evolve with it.
ToneHalo is a natural extension of my work with ToneThread and a broader exploration of neurodivergent ways of seeing, sensing, and interpreting the world. It isn’t a response to a single mandate, and it isn’t about shutting things down. It’s about reading what’s already happening.
Bans are simple.
Blocks are easy.
Neither scales.
Neither teaches.
ToneHalo doesn’t block behaviour. It reads it.
It adds a layer of proactive awareness to digital environments - surfacing subtle shifts in tone and intent before harm hardens. It can offer gentle prompts, like a reminder to pause or step away, not as control mechanisms but as signals - the kind that help build healthier habits rather than enforce compliance.
This approach isn’t limited to children or social platforms. ToneHalo can also be integrated at an enterprise level, offering organisations a way to understand the emotional climate of their communications without invasive monitoring or content policing. It doesn’t moderate. It doesn’t surveil. It observes patterns and surfaces insight.
This isn’t about surveillance.
It isn’t moderation theatre.
It isn’t nostalgia for a world that no longer exists.
It’s awareness - designed for the world we’re actually in.
So here it is. ToneHalo is live and ready to be explored. Not as another blunt instrument, but as an alternative to them. A way forward that favours understanding over restriction, and insight over denial. To learn more, visit tonehalo.pro or tonethread.studio.
